Good to know

Before you book, what everyone asks.

Do I need a boating licence to drive one myself?

No, not at any of the 8 rentals here. These are small boats that stay under the length and speed limits that call for a licence. You get a short briefing before you set off.

How old do you have to be to steer?

All 7 rentals that state an age let you steer from 18. Everyone else on board can be any age.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Yes at 6 of them. Pack it in a cool box; glass is best left at home on an open boat.

Can you rent a boat yourself in winter?

Yes. Boaty Rent a Boat, Canal Motorboats sail all year. For the others, see the season column in the table above.

What does it cost, really?

The prices here are for the whole boat, before city tax (€2.70 per person at most rentals). Split across a group it is the cheapest way onto the water: from about €19 each for 4 people and 2 hours. Some rentals take a refundable deposit; it is in the table above.
