What is Floating Today?
A mobile-first, hand-curated map of boat-friendly spots in and around Amsterdam: free public tie-ups, marinas, restaurants and bars you can reach by boat, charging points, fuel, swimming spots, public toilets (including the cast-iron krul urinals), boat ramps, marine services, watersports clubs, and supermarkets you can provision at. The point is the local intel on each spot, like how many boats fit, who the dock is for, and when it gets busy, not just a dot on a map.
How much does it cost?
It is free to use, with no paywall. A free account (passwordless) is what saves your spots and routes, so they follow you to any device.
Can I really moor, swim, or dock wherever a spot is shown?
Treat every spot as a suggestion, not permission. We check spots by hand, but the water changes and details like prices, hours, dock space and rules can be incomplete or out of date. The signs on the quay always win, so read them and follow local rules before you tie up, swim, or fuel.
How do you choose and check the spots?
Every spot is curated by hand, and many are shared by local boaters who actually tie up there. We add the intel that no public dataset has, like dock counts, size limits, and crowding patterns. The map is refreshed roughly monthly. It is a good local guide, not an exhaustive register.
Do I need an account?
You can browse the whole map without one. To save spots, routes and stops, sign in with a free account (passwordless), and your saves live with your account and follow you to any device. On your first visit you can also tell us how you boat (as a Captain, renter, or passenger), saved on your device to tailor which categories show by default. Nothing is ever hidden, an "off" category is just a chip you can tap back on.
How do I sign in? Do I need a password?
No password. Signing in is passwordless: we email you a one-time 6-digit code, or you can continue with Google. That is the whole account, there is nothing else to remember.
Is my data private?
Yes. We use no tracking cookies, and our analytics are aggregated and never tied to your name or email. Anything you save is private to you and is never posted anywhere public. See our Privacy Policy for the detail.
How do I download or delete my account data?
When signed in, open the Captain tab: "Export my data" downloads everything your account holds as a file, and "Delete account" permanently removes your account and all your saved data. You can also email hello@floating.today and we will take care of it.
What are collections and routes?
Collections are boat-curated round-ups of spots, picked by a real boat around a theme, like a sunny day in the west or waterside eating in Oost. A route is an ordered version you can actually follow, with a rough time and distance on the water. You can also build and share your own route from the map.
How do I suggest a spot or report a problem?
Use the "Suggest a spot" button on the map to add a place with its location and a note. If something is wrong with a spot, tap "Report" on it and tell us what is off (closed, wrong location, no real access, or wrong details). We log every report and re-check the spot. You can also email hello@floating.today.
What do you do with my email?
Only what you asked for. If you share your email, for example to save or share a route or to sign up, we use it to send new curated spots and early access, nothing else, and never spam. You can unsubscribe any time.
Do you cover the official boating rules, like vignettes and the emission-free zone?
We summarise the essentials in our guides and on spot pages, and we always point you to the official source for anything binding. For permits and fees (the vignette), speed limits, the emission-free zone in the centre, and live bridge and lock times, check the official pages listed below before you rely on a figure or date, since these change.
