The Canal Parade is the heart of Amsterdam Pride: around 80 decorated boats winding through the centre while more than half a million people line the quays. It's the city's second-biggest event after King's Day, and 2026 is extra special, because Amsterdam hosts WorldPride. If you want to be on the water along the route that day, in your own boat, you need a Pride Vignette. Here's exactly how to get one, what it costs, and how the day works.
A quick honesty note: prices, dates, and rules are set by the organisers and change each year, so treat the figures here as the 2026 picture and confirm on the official site before you plan around them.
Update, 20 July 2026: the vignettes are sold out. Sales opened on 1 July and every zone (A to E) now shows uitverkocht (sold out) on the official page. If you did not get one, there is no way to bring your own boat onto the parade route this year. The rest of this guide still explains how the system works, which is worth knowing for next year, but for 2026 the plan is the quays, on foot, and that is free.
The short version
To moor your boat along the parade route on Saturday 1 August 2026 you need a Pride Vignette (boats up to 10 metres; the organisers state there are no spaces at all for anything larger this year). They went on sale 1 July at 12:00 at botenparade.nl and are now sold out in every zone. Prices ran from €58 to €284 depending on length. Watching from the public quays, on foot, stays free, and for 2026 that is the realistic plan.
First: watching the parade vs being in it
Two different things get muddled, so let's be clear:
- Joining the parade as one of the ~80 decorated boats is for organisations (LGBTQ+ groups, networks, institutions). Registration closed back in February, spots are drawn by lottery when oversubscribed, and there's a visibility fund for some categories. That's not what most boat owners are after.
- Taking your own boat to the route to watch is the Pride Vignette. It's a parade-day pass for a private boat to moor in an assigned zone along the canals and soak up the atmosphere from the water. This guide is about that.
One more distinction worth nailing: the Pride Vignette is not the city's binnenhavengeld boat vignette (the one you need to be on Amsterdam's water at all, covered in the boat vignette guide). The Pride Vignette is an extra, parade-day pass. You need both on the day.
What it costs (2026)
The Pride Vignette is priced by your boat's length:
- Under 6 metres: €58
- Under 8 metres: €163
- Under 10 metres: €284
Maximum length is 10 metres. The organisers are explicit that for 2026 there are no spaces available for boats larger than that, so a bigger boat has no route option at all this year. Vignettes are non-refundable, and tickets can't be transferred or resold.
How to get one
- Mark the date: 1 July, 12:00. Sales open then at botenparade.nl, and they go fast (often gone within days), so be ready on time.
- Buy online. Pay by iDEAL, card, Bancontact, Sofort, or PayPal. You pick your zone and section during purchase; the exact mooring spot is assigned on the day.
- What arrives, and when: an email confirmation straight away (your proof of purchase), a zone sticker by post in late July, and your e-ticket emailed on 31 July. Tickets are personalised and non-transferable, so bring ID, the printed ticket, and the sticker on the day.
- On the day: arrive at your zone's entrance in your time slot, get scanned, and you're given a Pride Badge to display on the boat.
The route and the zones
The parade follows a fixed line through the centre: Oosterdok → Nieuwe Herengracht → the Amstel → Prinsengracht → Westerdok. For spectator boats it's split into five colour-coded zones (A to E) along that route, which is why you choose a zone when you buy.
Timing matters: the parade runs roughly 12:00 to 18:00, and your time slot is set by your boat's length (emailed mid-to-late July). The earlier zones wrap up first, with zone A finishing around 16:00 and zone E around 18:00. You commit to being in place for your slot, so plan the trip in and out around it. One hard deadline to note: the organisers state that all zone entrances close at 11:00, with no access after that, so a late start means no entry at all.
New for 2026: the WorldPride Stadium on the Prinsengracht
Because Amsterdam hosts WorldPride, the organisers are building a temporary stadium of roughly 10,000 seats on the Prinsengracht, between the Leidsestraat and the Spiegelgracht, and the parade sails straight through it. It runs 10:00 to 17:00, with the first boats expected to reach it around 12:30, and seats are ticketed separately from the free quayside viewing.
We have not seen the organisers publish what this means for navigation or mooring on that particular stretch, so we are not going to guess. If your plans involve that part of the Prinsengracht, check with them directly rather than assuming it works the way it does in a normal year.
The rules on the day
Pride is a big, joyful, crowded day, and the rules keep it safe:
- No amplified sound or loudspeakers on spectator boats.
- Don't throw anything or spray water at the parade boats.
- The skipper stays sober so you can get the boat home afterwards (the everyday no-alcohol-at-the-helm rule, which matters more than ever in a crowd).
- The usual 12 passengers plus a skipper limit still applies, and the marshals' directions and the signs on the water are the final word.

Sold out for 2026: what to do instead
The vignettes are gone, so here is the honest picture for the rest of us this year.
Watching from the canals and quays on foot is free, and the atmosphere along the route is half the fun. Get there early, because the centre fills hours ahead. You simply cannot take a private boat onto the route without a vignette, and the route is an event area on the day, so this is not a rule to test.
If you want to be on your own boat on 1 August, plan to be well away from the centre. The parade pulls half a million people and more into the middle of the city, the quayside along the route is car-free from midnight to midnight, and the water in that part of town is spoken for. Somewhere like the Amstel south of the city, the IJ well east or west, or one of the lakes will give you a good day afloat without spending it in a jam.
And for next year: treat 1 July at 12:00 as the date that matters. The queue opens at 11:30 and is shuffled randomly at noon, so being early does not help, but being absent does.
Before you plan around this
WorldPride 2026 will be busier than a normal year, the prices and time slots are set by the organisers, and the dates shift annually.
