Public urinal, Derde Kostverlorenkade
Derde Kostverlorenkade, Amsterdam52.35937, 4.85637
Free
A public urinal on the Derde Kostverlorenkade by the Kostverlorenvaart. You can tie to the canal railing right by it, but it smells, so you may prefer to tie up a bit further and walk over.

What is a krul?
The krul (Dutch for "curl") is Amsterdam's open-air spiral urinal, a cast-iron street fixture that has stood on the canals for over a century. It is always free and never closes, but it is men only and offers no privacy, which draws fair criticism: there is no free public equivalent for women, a gap that has been challenged in the Dutch courts.
We check every spot by hand, but the water changes. Have a quick look at local signs before you tie up. More in our Terms.
